Emma Bunton prepapres for Dancing On Ice judging debut

SHE may be Baby Spice but Emma Bunton isn’t going to go all ga ga over the celebrities on Dancing On Ice tomorrow.

The 33-year-old turns judge on the ITV 1 show and reckons she’ll show some Girl Power and tell the nervous skating stars exactly what’s what – as well as giving ice queen judge Jason Gardiner a run for his money.

The mum-of-one promised: “I’m usually shouting at the telly when I’m watching it at home so I might as well be there in the studio giving my tuppence worth instead.

“Obviously I’m a very warm person but I’m also very honest about what I like to see in a performance.

“So if I find something really exciting then I’ll be jumping up and down but equally if there’s something I’m not enjoying I will make that very clear.

“Hopefully I’ll do it in a helpful way.”

Emma replaces Ruthie Henshall on the judging panel, which includes Robin Cousins, Karen Barber and Nicky Slater.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean again provide the training.

Heather Mills is favourite to be the first celebrity given the boot.

The other ladies are Gordon Ramsay’s wife Tana Ramsay, ex-Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, singer Sinitta, EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook, Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack and ex-Emmerdale star Hayley Tamaddon.

The blokes are represented by Boyzone’s Mikey Graham, comedian Bobby Davro, GMTV’s Dr Hilary Jones, actor Gary Lucy, Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson, ex-Coronation Street actor Danny Young and ex-Holby City actor Jeremy Sheffield – the bookie’s favourite.

Emma is well placed to be a judge having come third in Strictly Come Dancing in 2006. She promises she won’t be ultra-bitchy like Jason, whose withering putdowns include likening Kelly Holmes to “a man in drag,” and telling Todd Carty: “You look like and move like you have cr***** yourself.”

And she will put him in his place if she thinks he’s out of order.

Emma said: “I’ve known Jason a long time and he’s been in a couple of my videos. I adore him but sometimes he’s a bit negative in his feedback.

“So if he’s negative rather than constructive then I will have to say something. The main thing for me is I am a performer and I know how nerve-wracking it is for everyone but you still have to put on a good show.”

So has Emma got any last-minute advice for the contestants? She said: “When you’re performing, it’s all about confidence. You have to make people enjoy your act.

“So even if things aren’t going well, as long as you’re smiling and people are enjoying it then it doesn’t matter.

“That’s what I want to see – enjoyment and fun. They need to try to leave the fear behind and just have a blast.”

Dancing On Ice, Sunday at 6.45pm and 9.30pm on ITV1.
